The model:  Mitch had been wanting to build this boat for a long time, but didn't have the registration. There was no racing in 2020 due to COVID19 so he built it anyway and planned to just run it for fun. The boat is one of his all-time favorites. He had a good time running it by himself in 2021. He later made a deal with Bill McGraw to get the registration and is able to race it in 2022. Things look promising as it won the first CT race of the '22 season, the Apple Cup.

The real boat:  The famous Winged Wonder, designed by Ron Jones, hit the scene in 1973 with Mickey Remund behind the wheel and immediately had success, winning the '73 championship. It dominated competition in 1974 with George Henley driving. The team, led by Jim Lucero made changes to the boat that didn't work out well. New driver, Jim McCormick struggled and was replaced after the first two races. Owner, Dave Heerensperger coaxed George Henley out of retirement to become his driver again. Things eventually turned around and Pay'n Pak made a remarkable comeback in 1975 to earn their third championship in a row.
